## How does it work?
senseBox is based on an Arduino compatible microcontroller to which various sensors and actuators can be connected. Within a very short time, own measuring devices can be assembled, programmed and measurement data can be transferred to the Internet. On the [openSenseMap](https://opensensemap.org/), the associated data portal, the data from over 8000 stations worldwide can be viewed, evaluated and downloaded. The senseBox is already in use at numerous schools, student laboratories and universities.
## Not just for nerds
The senseBox can be programmed with a graphical programming interface ([Blockly for senseBox](https://sensebox.de/en/blockly.html)) as well as with a text-based programming interface (Arduino). Consequently, the application does not require any knowledge of computer science and can be used in many other contexts.

* Abstract and logical ways of thinking are trained and self-obtained data is visualized and evaluated using mathematical methods.
* The basics of programming can be learned through simple programming commands in a user-friendly and descriptive development environment, and this knowledge can be continuously expanded to complex programming.
* Environmental phenomena can be experienced through the cognitive method of measurement and the stationary or mobile data collected are suitable for the analysis and understanding of various environmental phenomena.
* Technical processes are recorded in a differentiated manner and knowledge is promoted in the area of the function and effect principles of technical systems, which contribute to the management of everyday problems.
* Self-formulated hypotheses can be confirmed or refuted on the basis of one's own measurement data and thus the entire scientific path of knowledge can be followed.
